In 1989 local theatre fans established the STATT-Theater Vegesack. The aim of this public benefit association is to continually offer high-quality theatre for Bremen-Nord.The theatre association does not receive public funding and is financed by membership fees, entrance tickets and donations only.
The permanent venue of this amateur theatre is the „Kleine Bühne“ (little stage) in the Gustav-Heinemann-Bürgerhaus (community centre) Vegesack. From time to time, however, the ensemble plays other locations as the Kulturbahnhof Bremen-Vegesack. The 50 members of the group produce from three to five plays a year. But the children's christmas play has a special status. The promotion of young talents is also very important for the STATT-Theater. Many active amateur players have been trained in the STATT-Theater's young talents'ensemble.
The association has since its establishment enriched the cultural landscape of Bremen-Nord with its 75 stagings so far in a considerable way. More than 65.000 visitors have attended the productions so far. Their range is diverse: Classical and modern plays, comedies, Revues, murder mysteries and dramas, experimental theatre and productions of its own. No genre is to be excluded by the theatre directors.
In 1997, the STATT-Theater has been awarded the KULTURPREIS VEGESACK by the town council. The STATT-Theater is today a vital component of the cultural landscape of Bremen-Nord.
